Protecting Yourself and Your Loved Ones

The impact of the Covid pandemic has certainly made many of us think more carefully about household finances and protecting our loved ones from financial difficulties. Many families would have to cut their living costs in order to survive financially in the event of the main breadwinner falling ill or dying prematurely.

What would you do? Perhaps savings could be dipped into? Or would you receive sick pay from your employer? Would you be eligible for any form of state benefit? How long would these last, and would they be sufficient to allow you or your family to continue to enjoy the lifestyle enjoyed previously?

Family Protection is about creating a financial safety net so that you and your family can remain financially secure should the unthinkable happen. Even if you have protection in place, is it in line with your current circumstances and requirements? Or even if you don’t have a family or a mortgage but your income were to stop suddenly due to ill health, what would you do?

There are different types of insurance policies available and you can choose from Life Insurance, Critical illness cover and Income Protection. These all work in different ways but can all play a key part in ensuring you and/or your family are covered against the financial impact of death, critical illness or loss of income due to sickness or accident.

Taking out protection will give peace of mind that if the worst does happen, you will have a safety net in place to cover any outstanding debts or liabilities and/or leave a lump sum or regular income for your family or dependents. This benefit can often be paid tax free if cover is written in Trust.

If you feel that this is something that could be of interest, please give us a call and we can help you work out the right cover for your personal circumstances. You may be surprised how small the cost can be for some of these insurance types, particularly for younger ‘lives’.

Please remember as with any insurance policy, you will have to go through an underwriting process and the cost will depend on your age and health. The level of cover you are able to achieve may be restricted by affordability.
